How to keep a snowman cold

31st Jan 2025

In science this week Junior and Senior Infants were investigating how to keep a snowman cold/ if a coat would make a snowman hotter, (melt) faster!
As part of our investigations, we put 2 bottles of water, (our snowmen),  into the freezer. We wanted to find out if a coat would keep a snowman cold or make the snowman hot.
When our snowmen were fully frozen, we took them out of the freezer, and using felt as a coat for one snowman, we wrapped one 'snowman' in the felt and secured it with an elastic band. We then left both snowmen side by side for one hour and waited to see what the results would be.
We were surprised to find that the snowman with the coat stayed frozen and had hardly melted at all while the snowman without the coat had melted quite a bit.
We concluded that the coat kept the snowman colder!
